Capabilities of the ORNL Subsetter available to the Simple Subsetting Wizard
The ORNL Subsetter is capable of subsetting data sets temporally as well as spatially and/or by variables. The subsetting is performed by an OPeNDAP (Open-source Project for a Network Data Access Protocol) server. (For information about OPeNDAP, see the OPeNDAP Quick Start Guide).
Temporal subsetting will be performed according to the date range specified in the search criteria.
Spatial subsetting will be performed only if a Spatial Bounding Box was specified in the search criteria.
Variable subsetting will be performed for the selected variables.
When you Subset Selected Data Sets, once the subset request is completed for a selected data set, a list of URLs for downloading subsets of that data set can be viewed in either HTML or Plain Text format.
When viewed in HTML format, each subsetted granule can be downloaded by clicking on its link, or they can all be downloaded by using a browser-based download manager. When viewed in Plain Text format, the list of URLs can be copied, saved in a file on your local workstation, and used with a Unix command line tool such as wget to download all of the subsetted files. You can also feed the URLs to an OPeNDAP-enabled data analysis package like Ferret or GrADS.
Details on how to download the subsetted granules can be found in these instructions.
