The latent heating products of TRMM 2A12 and 3A12 over ocean surfaces should be regarded as experimental.Please confer first with the algorithm developers (by contacting the GES DISC) when using the latent heating product over ocean.Over-land latent heating estimates from TRMM products 2A12 and 3A12 should not be used, as they have not been evaluated quantitatively or qualitatively.

Summary

This document provides basic information on 3A12, TMI Monthly 0.5° x 0.5° Profiling. Algorithm 3A12 produces global 0.5° x 0.5° monthly gridded means using 2A12 data. Vertical hydrometeor profiles and surface rainfall means are computed. Various pixel counts are also reported. The granule size is one month.

The pixel counts include ambiguous pixels.
NpixAmbiguousInteger SDSnlat*nlon~0 ~ 10,000.0~The NpixAmbiguous is the monthly accumulation of pixels with surface rain greater than equal to 0.0 (mm h-1) and rain flag greater than 0 (indicates ambiguous rain) in 0.5° x 0.5° boxes from 40°N x 40°S.
