S17-120-51 (Linhof 90mm)
Flight 41G; 37N, 25.5E, 6 Oct 1984
Internal waves in the Mediterranean Sea are intriguing because there are insufficient tides to produce
any forcing function. Yet they exist, probably more from wind forces than any other action.
Such was the case, no doubt, when the Challenger crossed the eastern
Mediterranean Sea early in its mission. The panoramic view over Turkey was caught well by the
Linhof camera, showing not only the internal waves on either side of Crete, but the great dust pall
spreading north from Libya over the Mediterranean, lonian, and Aegean seas, and Greece.
