Flight 51F; 26.7N, 50.6E, 08:57:09 GMT, 6 Aug 1985
Ten months after Flight 41G, the commander of the Challenger had an excellent view
of the waters lying between Bahrain and the industrial complex of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The causeway between the two countries stood out clearly. More than two years had passed
since the observations from STS-6, but the oil slicks on the waters of the Persian Gulf were
even more widespread than had been observed in 1983. The extent of the oil and the iridescence
in the sun's glitter were "awesome," reported the Challenger's commander.
