Countdown for Giovanni 3 Decommission
DAYS HOURS MINS SEC

warn_icon.gif IMPORTANT MESSAGE Apr 20, 2015    The NASA GES DISC will be replacing all individual Giovanni "data portals" (Giovanni 3) with a new single comprehensive Giovanni (Giovanni 4)

The new and faster Giovanni 4 (http://giovanni.gsfc.nasa.gov/giovanni/) has many expanded capabilities, such as shapefile support and seasonal analysis.  We encourage Giovanni users to become acquainted with the new Giovanni system and provide feedback to help us improve Giovanni.

Please note that most of the data in Giovanni can be obtained directly via the GES DISC search engine (Mirador), Simple Subset Wizard (SSW), and OPeNDAP, all of which provide fast and direct access to the data sets.

The GES DISC also provides a growing collection of data "recipes" for using the data in their original native file formats, as well as converting data into alternate formats when necessary, for use within tools and applications, such as GIS and Google Earth.

Giovanni is a Web application developed by the GES DISC to provide a simple, intuitive way to visualize, analyze, and access vast amounts of Earth science remote sensing data, particularly from satellites, without having to download the data.

Giovanni consists of several portals tailored to meet the needs of different Earth science research communities.  To use a Giovanni portal, click the its link in the lists under the left tab above.

Giovanni includes data for aerosols, atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric temperature and moisture, and rainfall.  Giovanni also includes output from assimilation models covering a wealth of atmospheric, land surface and oceanographic parameters.
