This operation collects observational data from discrete time steps over a temporal interval and connects the time steps together, allowing calculation of time-related values.
In this operation, the files in an input file group are considered as a time-series, i.e., each file in the file group represents data at a specific point in time. Thus, files in the same file group, which contain the same set of parameters, are then merged into a time-series for each parameter. The missing times, if any, are filled with missing values in the time series.
The inputs to this operation are a series of files representing a time-series. The files contain the same set of parameters, and belong to a specific file group in Giovanni-3 XML. In the case of multiple file groups, separate time-series are constructed for the different file groups.
The outputs of this operation are time-series data for each file group, after the data from files in the same file group are combined. As a result, there is only one output file group, with the dimension of an output parameter increasing by one due to the the added time dimension. For example, a 2-dimensional parameter, dat (X, Y), becomes 3-dimensional with a time dimension added, i.e., dat (t, X, Y).
Files in a file group are connected to form time-series for all parameters. Missing data points are filled with fill values during the processing. The result is time-series data, with the first dimension being the time.
