Giovanni-3 Operation Technical Summary: Curtain Plot Renderer

Curtain Plot Renderer

The curtain plot rendering service for G3 is designed for producing a vertical cross-section image.

Input parameters:
Data values
Pressure (vertical dimension)
Latitude values
Longitude values
Time mark

Output Description:
Labeled vertical cross-section;
lat, lon and time along x-axis, pressure values along y-axis.

Output Parameters: Same as input

File Type:
Input: HDF4
Output: Curtain plot image

  • Latitude: standard map latitude
  • Longitude: standard map longitude
  • Pressure: atmospheric pressure level (decreases with altitude)

Description of Operation:

  1. Input time vs. pressure data array.
  2. Input latitude, longitude, and time dimensions.
  3. Create data arrays with corresponding data values.
  4. Assign axis labels to plot based on input latitude, longitude and time data.
  5. Plot data values corresponding to computed axis ranges.
  6. Generate the output image plot using designated color palette.

Algorithm Details
The plotting function is "NAME" in IDL.
