The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) is completing a crucial transition period, which will result in the release of TRMM Version 7 data, superseding TRMM Version 6 data. The first availability of the data from the Precipitation Processing System will be on July 19, 2011, following a period of downtime for system maintenance.
The Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) archives TRMM data and distributes it via the Mirador earth science data search tool. After TRMM Version 7 data are transferred from the PPS to Mirador, the data will be available for ordering and download some time after July 26th. For questions please contact the GES DISC Help Desk.
The Precipitation FAQ has added new questions and answers regarding the availability of TRMM Version 7 data, and the changes in the data from Version 6.
TRMM launched on November 27, 1997 and has been successfully collection precipitation data since that time, allowing scientists increased understanding of severe storms, floods, droughts, and potential changes to Earth's hydrological cycle due to climate change.
