TOVAS Update: Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) Monitoring Data
TRMM Online Visualization and Analysis System updated with new monitoring analysis data
Professional rain gauge
The Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) global precipitation monitoring product is a monthly 1° x 1° product produced by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD, National Meteorological Service of Germany) under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
GPCC has now changed its analysis scheme, using its new global gridded monthly precipitation climatology for the analysis background. Based on this new analysis scheme, all GPCC monitoring analyses from January 2007 to present have been reanalysed and named GPCC Monitoring Analysis Version 2, according to the GPCC. We have updated TOVAS (http://disc2.nascom.nasa.gov/Giovanni/tovas/ground.GPCC.shtml) to reflect this change.
Global GPCC data: number of rain gauges per grid, showing a steady increase in the number of rain gauges after a gradual decline in the early 1990s.
