The scientific community's acceptance and use of the Goddard Interactive Online Visualization ANd aNalysis Infrastructure (Giovanni) continues to grow, as evidenced by the large number of scientific contributions that have recently appeared in many diverse research journals around the world. Giovanni is now being widely utilized for research in atmospheric phenomena, meteorological events and climate trends, air quality, ocean biology, physical oceanograph, the global carbon cycle, and even the transmission of diseases such as influenza and malaria.
The June 2010 update of the Giovanni publications list includes 20 new publications, covering such diverse topics as the weather in Moscow, atmospheric aerosols over the Himalayas, carbon uptake in northern forests, food poisoning caused by the ciguatera toxin found in fish from the Caribbean Sea, and malaria prediction in Afghanistan. The ease of use and the diversity of data available in Giovanni allow researchers in many disparate fields to utilize the NASA remote sensing data resources provided by the Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) in the Giovanni system.
Halfway through 2010, the count of publications utilizing Giovanni stands at 49, which is more than half of the publications published in 2009.
