The December 2010 issue of The Giovanni News is now available online – just in time for the last four days of the American Geophysical Union 2010 Fall Meeting! This issue features summaries of all of the presentations that GES DISC staff are involved in, either as authors or co-authors. The issue also includes an article about the exciting MAIRS 8-day, 1 km MODIS land surface temperature data that can now be analyzed with Giovanni, and an update on the 2010 roster of peer-reviewed publications, which now exceeds 100.
The AGU presentations cover a wide variety of topics, including: communicating data quality to users of remote sensing data; making remote sensing data easier to use; information systems for energy and water cycle studies; using three-dimensional data representations in Google Earth to visualize atmospheric data; "modernizing" 1960s era Nimbus data for use in the 21st century; updated land data assimilation data sets at the GES DISC; and an eight-year climatology of Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and Modern-Era Retrospective-analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) data.
