Dr. Zhong Liu of the Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) and George Mason University will travel to Hamburg, Germany to attend the 5th Workshop of the International Precipitation Working Group (IPWG-5). At the workshop's training session – sponsored by the The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) – Dr. Liu will describe Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) data and services at GES DISC, as well as the TRMM Giovanni interface. TRMM Giovanni was previously called the TRMM Online Visualization and Analysis System (TOVAS), and was one of the first implementations of the GES DISC's widely-used Giovanni system.
Dr. Liu will also present a poster, "Global Precipitation Data Access, Value-added Services and Scientific Exploration Tools at NASA GES DISC" on the first day of the workshop. [Draft agenda for the IPWG-5 Workshop (PDF)]
IPWG is co-sponsored by the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). IPWG focuses the scientific community on operational and research satellite-based quantitative precipitation measurement issues and challenges. The IPWG-5 workshop takes place October 11-15, 2010, and is jointly hosted by the KlimaCampus, University of Hamburg, Germany; its Cluster of Excellence CliSAP (Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction); and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology.
