The Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) will be hosting the Collaborative Energy and Water Cycle Information Services (CEWIS) workshop next week, June 15-16, 2010, at the Goddard Visitor Center. The workshop is sponsored by the NASA Energy and Water Cycle Study (NEWS) program, headed by Jared Entin (NASA HQ). One of the main goals of the workshop is to determine data preparation requirements, technical challenges, and roadblocks encountered when performing heterogeneous multi-data set science and data validation.
The workshop participants expect to address the following topics:
- Simplifying data access.
- Enabling data manipulation.
- Identifying "bottlenecks" related to data availability and combining data sets.
- Increasing data sharing opportunities for collaborative research.
Different focus groups will address these topics, organized around the themes of:
Modeling & Water Cycle Prediction
Energy & Water Cycle Climatology
Evaporation & Latent Heating
Drought & Flood Extremes
