2008 Fall AGU Meeting: Atmospheric data and visualization presentations

Outstanding atmospheric data products and services at the GES DISC are featured in presentations about the Aura mission sensors, the A-Train Data Depot, and simulated atmospheric data fly-throughs in Google Earth, all at the Fall AGU meeting in San Francisco.

Three presentations at the 2008 Fall Meeting are about topics regarding remote-sensing data for clouds, atmospheric dynamics, and atmospheric chemistry.

(Note:   summaries of presentations with GES DISC staff as either first authors or co-authors are included in this news article.)

"New Collections of Aura Atmospheric Data Products at the GES DISC"  presents a description of atmospheric data collected by sensors on NASA's Aura satellite.   The new data includes the Ozone Measuring Instrument (OMI) Level 2G daily global binned data product, and also the OMI daily Level 3 gridded data product.   Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) data are now Version 2.2.  High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder (HIRDLS) data are now Version 2.4.29.   The data are available from the GES DISC and are also in the Giovanni system, providing Giovanni's online data analysis capabilities.  Authors:   James Johnson, Suraiya Ahmad, Irina Gerasimov, and Greg Leptoukh.

This presentation is a poster scheduled for Friday, December 19, at 0800, in Moscone Center Hall D, Session A51I, poster 0225.

"A-train Data Depot (ATDD): Providing users with convenient display and download services for collocated A-train instrument data" describes the atmospheric data available from "A-Train" instruments satellites, which include Cloudsat, CALIPSO, MODIS, AIRS, MLS, and POLDER.  These datasets are augmented with model data.   Data co-located along the Cloudsat ground track is available in multiple formats.    Sample cloud precipitation products from the various A-Train instruments will be featured in this presentation.  Authors:   Peter Smith, Steve Kempler, Greg Leptoukh, Andrey Savtchenko, and Robert Kummerer.

This presentation is a poster scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, at 0800, in Moscone Center Hall D, Session A51E, poster 0164.

"NASA Airborne-Simulated Vertical Data in Google Earth" presents a visually-exciting demonstration of the display of vertical profile data from NASA instruments such as Cloudsat, CALIPSO, and instruments on the Aura platform.  The data are presented as if viewed from the perspective of an aircraft flying along the satellite track.  This visualization utilizes a COLLADA (Collaborative Design Activity) 3-dimensional model available in Google Earth.  Authors:   Aijun Chen, Greg Leptoukh, and Steve Kempler.

This presentation is a poster scheduled for Thursday, December 18, at 0800, in Moscone Center Hall D, Session IN41A, poster 1132.
