New SBUV Ozone data from MEaSUREs available
The Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) is 
pleased to announce the release of the new Solar Backscattered Ultra Violet 
(SBUV) Level-3 Monthly Zonal Mean (MZM) data products, part of the "Creating a 
Long Term Multi-Sensor Ozone Data Record" project headed by Richard McPeters 
from NASA/GSFC. These data represent the latest release from the NASA Making 
Earth Science Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) 
Program.


Retrievals of the ozone vertical distribution and total column ozone were 
generated using the latest SBUV algorithm (v8.6) from a series of 8 
instruments:

 Nimbus 4 BUV (Apr. 1970 - Apr 1977)
 Nimbus 7 SBUV (Nov. 1978 - Jun. 1990)
 NOAA 9 SBUV/2 (Feb. 1985 - Jul. 1997)
 NOAA 11 SBUV/2 (Dec. 1988 - Mar. 2001)
 NOAA 14 SBUV/2 (Feb. 1995 - Apr. 2006)
 NOAA 16 SBUV/2 (Oct. 2000 - Dec. 2010)
 NOAA 17 SBUV/2 (Jul. 2002 - Dec. 2010)
 NOAA 18 SBUV/2 (Jun. 2005 - Dec. 2010)

The ultimate goal is an ozone Earth Science Data Record (ESDR) - a consistent, 
calibrated ozone time series that can used for trend analyses and other 
studies. Level 3 MZM data products are generated for each satellite separately 
and span the entire time series for that satellite. Individual satellite time 
series begin with the first full month and end with the last full month in the 
data record. Each Level 3 MZM file computes zonal means covering 5 degree 
latitude bands for each calendar month. This is the first release of this set 
of data product collections, version 1.00.
