What's new with TRMM in the GSFC DAAC Search and Order Web Interface (WHOM)

The TRMM dataset has moved to a new interface format in the GSFC DAAC Search and Order Web Interface (WHOM). The data now resides on S4PA which allows users to have easier access to the data by providing a direct download capabiity. The data is access in the same way as data is accessed through out datapool. A user no longer has to order the data through our shopping cart and wait for the "media" to be ready for them, but can now use ftp to directly download the data or save individual files since all the data is available online.

What is S4PA?

The Simple, Scalable, Script-Based, Science Processing Archive (S4PA) is a radically simplified data archive architecture for supporting our DAAC users with online access to data. S4PA is already being used operationally and its deployment will be expanded in the months and years to come.

How do I access the data, and are there any tips?

TRMM data can be navigated the same as the old interface however you will no longer place granules into a shopping cart. In the the format there are several options for obtaining the data. The Data can be obtain by a single file or by FTP of multiple files by using a script provided at the bottom of your search result page. You will download the script at the bottom of the search result page, save it to your computer and name it what you think is appropriate. At the top of the page will be directions to run the ftp command for the machine specific to that data product. See an EXAMPLE of what the instructions would look like below:

SINGLE FULL SIZE granule download: click on the corresponding "Data File".

MULTIPLE FULL SIZE granule download:

Click the "Batch Download Script for FULL SIZE granules" link provided below the table of granules.
Create a new text file 'script.txt' and paste the commands found on the batch file script page.
On SGI or Linux machine, run: ftp -p -n disc3.nascom.nasa.gov < script.txt
On DOS, SunOS or Windows/Mac platforms, run: ftp -n disc3.nascom.nasa.gov < script

Here is an example of what the script file would look like:
