HO2, Hydroperoxyl Radical


The hydroperoxyl radical, HO2, is formed as an intermediate in the oxidation of most hydrocarbons.
In the polluted atmosphere, it is produced by the photolytic dissociation of formaldehyde. It reacts with Nitric Oxide and produces Nitric dioxide and hydroxyl radical. In the stratosphere, it plays active role in ozone-destroying chain reactions.
