Chlorophyll fluorescence efficiency, CFE, Fluorescence line height, FLH
The emission of radiation, especially of visible light,
by a substance during exposure to external radiation, as light or x-rays.
Fluorescence for Earth remote sensing is synonymous with chlorophyll fluorescence, the emission of fluorescent light from the chlorophyll molecule found in phytoplankton. If absorbed light energy is not used for either the photochemical reactions involved in photosynthesis or lost as heat, a small amount of energy can be re-emitted as fluorescence. The amount of fluorescence provides an indication of the physiological state of oceanic phytoplankton.
