The GES DISC does not endorse any commersial software. However, we can share our experience in using certain tools in our every day activities, without implying they are the best choice. GES DISC summarizes number of tools on its tool page.

Giovanni

 Giovanni A-Train Data Depot
This newest Giovanni instance is a Web-based graphics utility that displays co-located A-Train Data Depot (ATDD) data sets. This utility uses the latest version of Giovanni (v3) developed at the GES DISC to display certain CloudSat and CALIPSO vertical profile data together with collocated retrievals from other A-Train instruments - MODIS, AIRS, and AMSR-E on Aqua, POLDER on PARASOL, and MLS and OMI on Aura.

Giovanni is a Web-based application developed by the GES DISC that provides a simple and intuitive way to visualize, analyze, and access vast amounts of Earth science remote sensing data without having to download the data. Available instances: MISR, MODIS, MLS, OMI, SeaWiFS, TRMM, UARS...

CALIPSO EXPEDITED  BROWSE, WITH KMZ for GOOGLE-EARTH !

 CALIPSO Expedited Browse with KMZ

This portal from NASA Langley Atmospheric Reseach Center (LaRC) is an excellent web browse tool that allows quick previews of the near-real time CALIPSO L1B attenuated backscater (at 1064 and 532 nm), and the L2 Vertical Feature Mask production. The KMZ files for GoogleEarth are provided, for every 22.5-minute orbital segment. Users should drill down to the particular segment of interest to get to the KMZ option.

 Multi-Sensor Data Visualization and Analysis Tool

Quickand simple visualization tool for POLDER, MODIS Aqua (and Terra), MODIS blue marble, AIRS, SEVIRI, the CALIPSO instruments: its Lidar, Wide Field Camera, and Imaging Infrared Radiometer, Satellites tracks, Aeronet stations, etc. Grids and vertical profiles are available as appropriate.

HDF, HDF-EOS, and other EOSDIS Science Data Processing Toolkit material

HDF-EOS and SDP Toolkit
This is the home forall releases of HDF-EOS, tools like EOSView, HEG, and the SDP Toolkit libraries used in the EOS data processing and archiving centers. HDF-EOS User Manuals can be downloaded from that site. You can use the downloading instructions below* and then change ftp directory straight to what you need.

HDF
The home of the HDF group at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Find the new HDF5, and many new precompiled command-line utilities.

HDFLook

HDFLook is a multifunctionalHDF visualization tool. Even though designed for georeferencing (mapping) of MODISand AIRS data, it may turn useful for many other products in HDF format. HDFLook is a result of joint collaboration between Laboratoire d'Optique Atmosphérique (LOA), University of Lille, France, and NASA. Created as a flexible modular tool, is it easy to update, add new features, and is free. Download from LOA.


HDFView

 HDFView is one of the manytools by the HDF group at NCSA, and its strength is that it opens HDF4 and HDF5 formats, and shows the hierarchy of all objects in very friendly format. Useful for quick preview of dataas spreadsheets, even as simple line and image plots, all attributes, and all HDF-EOS structures if any. Download from NCSA.
