Simple read/dump programs are available for reading UARS Level 3 data. Fortran, C and IDL read programs are available here:
The HRDI data files are prepared in netCDF v3 format. Unidata provides a number of utilities with the NetCDF3 library to examine and edit these files. A list of these utilities and descriptions can be found on the website: www.unidata.ucar.edu/netcdf. The ncdump tool can be used as a simple browser for NetCDF data files, to display the dimension names and sizes; variable names, types, and shapes; attribute names and values; and optionally, the value of data for all variables or selected variables in a netCDF file.
Panoply (http://www.giss.nasa.gov/tools/panoply/) is another easy tool to read and plot the data. Descriptions of file naming convention and tools are explained in detail in the README file.
