Definition

Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) are fine aerosol (sea-salt, sulfate, soil, dust, smoke) particles which can serve as the nuclei upon which water vapor condenses in the atmosphere at supersaturation state (typical of atmospheric cloud formation).
CCN show diurnal variations, with a minimum in the morning and a maximum in the evenings.

Applications

(1) Cloud & Precipitation Models (4) Air Quality (fog)
(2) Characterization of Aerosol Particles (5) Radiative Transfer Model
(3) Ship Tracks (6) Earth Radiation Budget Study
