The Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) has completed reprocessing for AIRS version 5.2 for the period beginning Oct 1 2007 to March 2, 2008. The new version implemented an
adjustment in the algorithms to account for the excessive noise occurring in AMSU-A channel 4 and minimizes discontinuity in the long term record. The reprocessing applies to AIRS+AMSU-A Level-2 (AIRX2*) and Level-3 (AIRX3*) products.
Two versions of 5.x AIRS+AMSU-A Level-2 and Level-3 data products are now available:
- Beginning of the mission - September 30, 2007: version 5.0 only
- October 1, 2007 onwards: version 5.2 only
The version switch-over date is October 1, 2007. The version 5.2 algorithm smoothly continues the version 5.0 data record forward. The newer version number (5.2.2) is evident in the product filenames. There is no change in the file specification. For detailed information, the AIRS Science team has composed a guide document "AIRS/AMSU/HSB Version 5 Modification of Algorithm to Account for Increased NeDT in AMSU Channel 4".
