Yangtze Sediment and Chlorophyll Blooms

A snapshot of the 3-km NRT AIRS visible false-color image from March 16, 2010, served through Google Earth.

Yangze sediment and chlorophyll blooms

The image shows mixed plumes of sediments and chlorophyll off the coast of China near Shanghai, at the mouth of the Yangtze River, and a wide area of springtime chlorophyll blooms further off the coast.  A nice atmospheric von Karman vortex street, revealed by cloud patterns, formed south from Cheju do Island, apparently in the wake of a passing synoptic front.
